What are the entry criteria for the English and academic skills courses?
Candidates hoping to enter the English and academic skills courses:
- Should be between the ages of 18-30.
- Should be either Syrian or Jordanian.
- Should have completed high school.
- Should be looking to enter university education.
- Should be at Pre-intermediate (or above) level in English
Candidates should not have already taken an EU funded English and academic skills course
Where are the English and academic skills classes held?
The classes are held at our partner centres in Jordan and Lebanon. In Jordan, between March and June, we have classes in the following locations:
Amman:
- Happiness Again: Swelih, 179 Kings Abdullah the 2nd Street, Khalda Circle (on the way to to Sweileh) 100 metres after Oudeh Bank, beside Al Faris Market. On the 3rd Floor (entrance opposite Toshiba)
- Queen Zain As Shareef: Hasemi Shemali, Alkhama'el Street, beside Al Hashemi Police Station. Go to the next lights after Anabtawi Sweets, turn left and it's on the right after about 500m
- Syrians Across Borders: Dhahiet Al-Rasheed, Al Madinah al Riyadiah Circle, University Street, 150 metres after Al Rawdah traffic lights. Take the street beside Haif & Reef restaurant, first left, then right, end of street, building no. 38

What will I study?
The courses are all 100-hours long. They are divided into two levels: A and B. All courses have an English language focus, to improve students’ language skills, but also an academic focus, to help students prepare for higher academic study. The aim of the course is to help Syrian students get access to higher education opportunities. For more information on the course structure, please see the 'Language resource' section
Will I receive a certificate at the end of the course?
At the end of the course you will receive a British Council certificate of attendance with the number of hours that you attended on it. Your certificate of performance for the course will be either an IELTS certificate or an Aptis certificate.
How can I enter the courses?
You need to go for a placement test at one of our partner centres. All placement tests for courses starting in March are now finished, but placement tests will begin in May for courses which start after Ramadan. When are the courses held?
English and academic skills courses are held over a two-year period from November 2015 to October 2017. During this period there will be six pases, each of which are twelve-weeks long. A timetable of the phases during the courses is given below
