Our Young Photojournalist Programme is implemented in partnership with Dar Al Mussawir and Thomson Foundation to enhance the technical and entrepreneurial skills of young photographers looking to kick-start a career in photojournalism.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Young Photojournalist Programme seeks to support local photographers in communities across the Arab world to build technical and entrepreneurial skills that will enable them to build a career in photojournalism. In 2018, the programme was piloted with 15 young photographers from Lebanon, Syria and Yemen, providing them with intensive practical training in the art of storytelling through photography.
During this three-month training programme, the trainees participated in two intensive workshops in Beirut. Between each workshop, the trainees worked with the support of professional mentors to develop a series of photo-stories highlighting an element of their own cultural heritage. A selection of these images was exhibited at Dar El Nimer in Beirut in July 2018. In addition to building technical photography skills, the training also focused on the business-side of photojournalism – supporting these young talents to market their work, build their professional network and kick-start their careers in photography.
