Create Syria | British Council

Create Syria is a collaboration between British Council and Ettijahat- Independent Culture that aims to strengthen and enhance the expertise of Syrian artists and cultural actors and enable them to play increasingly active roles in improving the lives of individuals and communities affected by crisis.

The programme supports individual artists, collectives and community-based organisations to collaborate on new initiatives and, through practical training and experience, build their technical and artistic skills in community settings

Now in its second edition, Create Syria has supported 18 artistic initiatives in Lebanon since 2016 and collectively these projects have worked with more than 4000 people in communities across Lebanon.

The projects below were supported in the 2018 edition of the programme.

My imagination is always bigger

A theatre training project supporting a group of trainers and actors to develop interactive theatre workshops for young children in Syrian camps and Lebanese schools

Dual Presence and Absence of Sound

A series of interactive theatre workshops targeting a diverse group of young adults living in Beirut. The workshops provided them training in the creative medium of theatre through which they can share their experiences.

Seenaryo’s Pulse Group

Pulse is a project supporting eight aspiring theatre-makers and facilitators to develop an original performance to be toured in camps and schools across Lebanon

Zoukak Theatre Mentorship

Mentorship for two groups of Syrian artists based in Beirut working on their own original screenplays

Al Caravan Animation

This initiative is testing a new approach of working with young people to write short stories and develop them into animated films.
